India Asia Cup team selected: The BCCI revealed the side players to participate in the Asia Cup 2025 on Tuesday. Shubman Gill returns to the T20I squad and also is the vice-captain. Included is Jasprit Bumrah in the continental clash with his workload getting a lot of discussion.
Most likely Shubman Gill will take place of no. 3 position and Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma will be retained as openers. It is likely that in case Gill opens, as he does in his franchise Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Samson will be benched and Jitesh Sharma may have to take up the wicketkeeping. It eliminates Yashasvi Jaiswal, though BCCI chairman of selector Ajit Agarkar assured that the southpaw would be travelling to UAE as a reserve.
When we discuss the rest of the names, the stalwarts in the spin department would be Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Axar Patel in this case, and this is expected to be one of the key departments in the UAE as it is the case during the duels in the Champions Trophy in Dubai. In the meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana would be supporting Bumrah in the seam department.
Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan left out of Asia Cup squad
The former is the big name, though he is not a member of the squad, and still does excellent performances is Shreyas Iyer. According to the chairman of selectors, Iyer has performed well and they could not find a place the star batter.
It is planned to start the tournament on September 9 in the UAE, and India is the official host. India will face UAE on September 10 and play against Pakistan, which is going to be on 14th September. The last of the group match against Oman will take place on September 19.
