The schedule for the 18th season of the Indian Premier League has had changes made to it as per reports made by Cricbuzz. The season is set to commence from the 21st of March in Kolkatta and stretch until 25th of May with the championship taking place on that day. IPL 2025 was previously said to be held from the 14th of March to the 25th of May, but this was subject to change as it had yet to take place.
One of the major things that were revealed during the IPL auction was that BCCI was said to announce the dates for the upcoming two IPL, but on November 22, they claimed that the window was not the actual calendar and instead only represented the time set up for the season.
The request made by the broadcasters is being said to be the reason for the shift originally, they requested a later start to the event due to the champions league. Starting March 9, the champions league finale was taking place and it caused a ripple effect in the setting up of the Premier league. However people within the broadcasting network have denied any such allegations.
The locations for the main events follow a similar pattern. As it is customary to host these games at the home ground of the winning team, the 2024 IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Rider, will play their first and final matches in the Eden Gardens stadium. Meanwhile, SunRisers Hyderabad, who were last season’s second best, are expected to host two of the playoff matches.
Now that Devjit Saikia as a full term secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the treasurer have been elected by BCCI, it is anticipated that in the upcoming days the comprehensive timetable will be published. This meeting occurred on Sunday (12 January) in Mumbai and is referred to as the Special General Meeting, officers from both nations were elected.
As reported on Cricbuzz BCCI’s vice president Shukla Rajiv, also shared when the team for the Champions trophy will be issued: that it is either the 17th or 18th of January. The locations for WPL have already been decided and will be disclosed shortly according to the BCCI Vice President.
