Kane Williamson, the ex-captain of New Zealand, has pledged his allegiance to Middlesex Cricket, effectively signing a two-year contract during which he will play in the T20 Blast and County Championship competitions.
Additionally, Williamson has a contract with the London Spirit franchise, so he is expected to play in The Hundred. More significantly, Williamson in 2025 will become associated with Lord’s as the new home of cricket for him. There he will play both County Championship matches as well as T20 Blast games.

Kane Williamson to play for Middlesex Cricket and London Spirit
Ever since the New Zealand captain declined the central contract on offer, there has been rampant speculation regarding Kane Williamson’s future in the game. However, with the growth of franchise leagues and county cricket, many players from other countries are taking part in international leagues during their free time. This new deal Williamson has signed with Middlesex Cricket certainly marks a milestone in his career as he is going to be playing outside his native New Zealand.

“I was planning to visit the UK with my family, and the English summer is when we have a break in our international schedule, so when this opportunity came up, it was quite a spectacular vision. One of the reasons The Home Of Cricket is one of my favorite venues in the world is because I have so many amazing memories there,” Williamson said in a statement that was sent out by Middlesex CCC.
“What other grounds can claim the distinction of having a player from every country regard them as one of the best grounds in the world? That is what is add unique charm to any other place in the world and that is maintaining the traditions of playing there,” he explained.
It’s not unfamiliar territory for Williamson, seeing as he has played for Yorkshire and Gloucestershire before. But with new installments of franchise cricket emerging around the world, the batting great is now mainly focused on T20 cricket as he has a packed calendar for the rest of the year. Some of his obligations include playing for the London Spirit in The Hundred and the Karachi Kings in the PSL.
Superstar cricketer, however, was not bid for in the mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He was with the franchise of the Gujarat Titans but was subsequently let go from the team. But at this time Williamson is looking forward to 2025 Champions Trophy, which will be launched on February 19. For their first match, New Zealand will take on the home team Pakistan on Wednesday.
