Rohit Sharma finds his Groove Again

Rohit Sharma’s bat was not working. He had said, “bat chal nahi raha hai,” while explaining why he withdrew from the crucial fifth Test against Australia in January this year. Before the Sydney Test, he played nine Tests and one ODI, which meant he had gone ten innings without a run, so naturally, people began questioning his future in the sport.

India seal series after Rohit’s blistering ton

Rohit’s dismal showings at international cricket made me believe that he would fail for the 11th time in Cuttack during the India chase. During his first over, it seemed like Rohit was definitely going to miss. During over number two, Rohit started moving in his crease until he was handed a nicely pitched straight delivery. With his full flourished flick, Rohit managed to hit a total of seven sixes during the match. To start off, he hit the ball over the mid-wicket fence for his first followed by six more.

Where the ball traditionally skids on a black soil surface, Rohit was ready to take on the England pacers. One of his earlier victims happened to be Saqib Mahmood, who was watching his deliveries off-side while sailing over long-off for two more sixes.

A flickering floodlight tower interrupted Rohit’s early onslaught. After taking a 30-minute break to recuperate, he returned feeling and moving in the same fashion. His early carousel of glorious sixes on the night had a fourth addition – Mark Wood in the eighth over was sent over long on, and Rohit dismissed him from the crease. Then he was faced with Adil Rashid.

After Rohit’s onslaught, there was, as usual, some form of lethargy in the moments that followed the PowerPlay. However, the decline, as expected, was not a straight line as Rohit unveiled his World Cup strategies and actively searched for run scoring avenues, any sort of attempt even if it was less successful than earlier, was made. While England attempted to regain control, Rohit danced to the beat of his own drum, manipulating his batting speed like a seasoned puppeteer, switching the bowlers’ rhythm decisively in his favour.

England’s effort to correct their strategy has led them to bowl into Rohit’s body and try to confined him. The Indian opener however floated at the crease with confidence like a heavyweight fighter while still being able to cover all corners of the ground. The aim to pitch it short was counter-intuitive as it served as a welcoming mat for Rohit, as opposed to posting him with quick runs. It allowed him to skip many fences.on either side and over the fielders stationed at deep fine leg, deep square leg and deep mid-wicket.

As Virat Kohli’s much awaited appearance turned out to be an anticlimax, the 40,000 strong crowd in Cuttack was glee mixed with emotions. But Rohit as calm as ice, maintained their energy and India’s charge in the chase was sprawling. He compulsively swept against Rashid and pulled Mark Wood off his length, before stepping out and hitting the leggie for the seventh six of his innings to reach his 32nd ODI century. Only Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar have more in the format.

During his conversation with the broadcaster in Sydney, Rohit had categorically stated that he does not plan on quitting the sport. NHIS has also argued for the preservation of his great runs. Although he had said this, he might have been speaking about the longest format of the game. Regardless, Rohit turned words into actions with his ODI performance. Within 10 days of India’s first Champions Trophy game in Dubai, Rohit resumed his infamous tendency of lifting the ball into the depths of the sky. For more Details, Click 1xbetfair
