“Without a doubt,” Sunil Gavaskar said when asked if India is the best team in white-ball cricket today. “A team that is runners-up in the ODI World Cup, winners of the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy has to be.”

These sentiments seemed to blissfully capture India’s dominating victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final in Dubai on March 9th, which Gavaskar has been jubilating India’s supremacy as the best white-ball side. For more Details, Read Here
I know very few will agree with me when I say that it is hard to contend with Gavaskar’s views. Although it’s true India fell short of winning the 2023 ODI World Cup, no one will dispute that until sharply losing to Australia in front of their home crowd in the finals, India was the best team in the tournament.
Champions Trophy Final: Scorecard | Highlights
In the year 2024, India coming on top of the T20 World Cup contest without losing a single match, was simply the healing balm that the nation needed for the heartbreak of 2023. The Rohit Sharma led Indian squad continued to display their prowess in 2025, winning the Champions Trophy while again remaining unbeaten during the competition.
Winning two ICC titles in less than nine months is evidence for the brilliance and greatness of the champions.
It is bound to be mentioned in history that Champions Trophy was held in Dubai, which was an ‘undeniable advantage’ for India. It also has come to the attention of the world that some of the strongest competitors like reigning champions Australia, did not come in full force. But the belief does remain that the honor for best team who played the tournament goes to India, and it having been Nasser Hussain, who said it after the final, it must carry much more weight.
Perhaps, the Indians could have been behind if all of the Australian troops were present. Who knows? What can be said for certain though is how amazing the Indian team was as they marched through the contest, even without their master bowler, Jasprit Bumrah.
