Kane Williamson Create History, Shatters Virat Kohli Record; Takes Second Place on the Elite List

With 133 runs off only 113 balls, Kane Williamson finally got to put an end to six years of scoreless centuries while he was playing against South Africa on February 10. This was a huge contribution towards his team’s victory, who went on to win the match 6 wickets ahead of South Africa. This match took place in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, and New Zealand managed to chase a striking score of 305 runs. They finished their innings with 8 balls remaining.

For New Zealand, this was a very remarkable match as not only did the team win, but Williamson was also able to shine by scoring 72 balls, marking his second fastest ODI match. The match also puts New Zealand into the finals of the tri-series which also has Pakistan in it. His winning innings also contained 13 boundaries and two sixes.

Williamson has Broken a Record Against Kohli

By managing to get 7,000 ODI runs and hitting a boundary, Williamson helped New Zealand clinch victory. He is the 5th player from the black caps team to achieve this feat along with Ross Taylor, Stephen Fleming, Martin Guptill, and Nathan Astle.

Willamson has done the impossible in only 159 innings and is the second fastest player to achieve 7000 runs, which is a fascinating record. The modern great has surpassed Virat Kohli in this respected list, and now sits second among the 46 players who have achieved the mark, behind only Hashim Amla.

Williamson has also shattered Martin Guptill’s record (185 innings) and is now the fastest New Zealand player to achieve the milestone, and will be delighted with the new record. A lot of other players, like Ross Taylor (189), Nathan Astle (212), and Stephen Fleming (237), were also left behind by a significant number.

This marks his first appearance on the scorecard with more than 100 runs after the 2019 World Cup anti Westindies. While Williamson has recently been breaking records in ODI cricket, this is significant.

In the match, South Africa’s total was bolstered by debutant Matthew Breetzke’s record score of 150 runs. Williamson, batting during the second wicket, made 187 runs in partnership with Devon Conway, who scored 97 runs.

New Zealand won their first game of the tournament against Pakistan on Saturday, February 8th. The match between South Africa and Pakistan will be a virtual semi-final, determining who Mitchell Santner’s side will meet in the actual quarter-final. Get More Sports New Update, visit 1xbetfair
