Virat Kohli set make Ranji Trophy return after 13 years, will be led by the 25-year-old younger star of LSG

Virat Kohli returns to India’s domestic circuit with the ‘Blue’ team. Kohli was awarded formal inclusion to the squad for the 2025 Ranji Trophy game against the Railways set to begin on January 30. Now, for the first time in 13 years, Kohli will serve in this capacity.

He is, however, expected to chip in under the regional captaincy of Ayush Badoni. The squad does not include Star’s wicket keeper batter, Rishabh Pant, who participated in the most recent game against Saurashtra.

This season, Badoni who is the regular captain for Delhi, has had a horrid tournament while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. Out of the six matches, Delhi has managed only one win, three draws, and two losses, which has put them in dire straits. Kohli was not part of the squad during his side’s recent capitulation at the hands of the Saurashtra team, where they were bowled out twice for innings scores of 188 and 94. The other team was able to achieve the target with a 10 wickets victory. Although some of his past performances have been underwhelming, Kohli will add much needed strength to the side.

Kohli’s return to Ranji

In an exclusive tête-à-tête with 1xbetfair, the secretary for the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) stated, “We expect Virat Kohli joins the Delhi Ranji side tomorrow, and will commence training tomorrow at 10 am.”

In November 2012, Kohli played his last Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh. Delhi lost by six wickets, he having amassed 14 in the first and 43 (65) in the second innings. After this he became a regular member of Indian elevens across formats and he and other international players stopped playing for their respective states.

The BCCI, which has recently directed that all international windows must be accompanied by mandatory domestic cricket, has also played a part in hastening this return. Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Test captain Rohit Sharma have all participated in the event already. Reportedly, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul and some others are likely to be involved in the next phase which is scheduled for soon.

The return of Virat Kohli to the Ranji format of cricket has been organized by the officials of Delhi and Districts Cricket Association. DDCA is expecting a attendance of around 10,000 spectators for their last Ranji trophy match. DDCA has arranged for two stands to be opened to the general public. As was the case for all home matches of Delhi at Arun Jaitley Stadium in the past, admission will continue to be free of charge. Read More details, Visit Here
