At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, during Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways, Virat demanded to have Chilli Paneer for lunch.
If one were to look back a few years, cooking Chilli Chicken was one of Kohli’s go to recipes whenever he was non vegetarian. In 2018, Kohli went vegan because it was very crucial for him to maintain a healthy lifestyle with the busy schedule he had with international and domestic cricket.

Chhole poori was a dish that Kohli wasn’t particularly fond of and preferred oils over it. Instead, he opted for Kadhi Chawal along with the other players and support staff, as one Delhi and Districts Association member mentioned before the match with Railways. Kohli’s casual demeanor was the focus of a conversation Sanjay Jha, his childhood chef, had with us while recalling how Kohli always stayed grounded despite his achievements in the international arena.
“Sanjay Jha, who knew Kohli since his childhood went on stating how Kohli has never changed. I have operated a canteen for over two decades now and he used to order food from me. This is the starting point of his career, and he does not have an attitude. He still speaks with us and the waiters in a very polite manner.” Sanjay Jha said in a well known interview with Sports Today.
“Earlier, his favorite food was chilli chicken. Not only did he consume it, but he would also recommend it to his colleagues. Now he consumes chole bhature or kadhi chawal. Once I suggested that we place an order, but he calmly turned me down and said that he wished to eat from the cantine,” stated Sanjay Jha.
In an Instagram ‘Ask me anything’ hosted in 2021, the 36 year-old Kohli revealed, “I consume a lot of vegetables, some eggs, and love dosas too, but all in controlled quantities. Also, two cups of coffee and plenty of spinach.”
Kohli made his return to the Ranji Trophy on the 30th of January. After not playing for 12 years since 2012, where he last participated against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. On Tuesday prior to Thursday’s game, he reported to the Arun Jaitley Stadium where he partook in running and fielding exercises.
